George A. Zeigler III, 68, of Interlachen, Fla., died Friday, June 18, 2010, at a health care facility near his home.
Born Feb. 1, 1942, in La Paz, Bolivia, he was the son of the late George A. and Marianna Radcliffe Zeigler of Frederick.
Following his graduation from Frederick High School, class of 1959, he earned his B.S. in biology from Mount St. Mary's College. After completing his degree in 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and completed his six-year commitment at the 558th Signal Company in Frederick.
Working in marketing and sales throughout his career, his employment took him to Washington, D.C., Oregon, Illinois, Utah and Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, in Florida; his sons, George and wife, Laura, and Marshall; his sons' mother, Karen Muir; and one grandson, George, all of Nevada. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Schipper and Teresa Pyles, both of Frederick; and his brother, James and wife, Rebecca Pearl, of Rocky Ridge. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will hold a private memorial service near his home. Condolence cards may be sent to his wife at 817 Dawn Ave., Interlachen, FL 32148.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in George's name to the school and campus he loved so much: Mount St. Mary's University, National Shrine Grotto of Lourdes, 16300 Old Emmitsburg Road, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 Attn.: William Tronolone.
